ASX- and TSX-V-listed Hot Chili has appointed two seasoned mining executives to steer the company through the next phase of development at its Costa Fuego copper/gold project in Chile.

The company named former Gold Fields executive VP Stuart Mathews as nonexecutive chairperson and Chilean mining engineer Alberto Cerda as project director.

Both bring decades of global and Chilean mining experience as Hot Chili prepares to kick off definitive feasibility studies for its Costa Fuego and Huasco water projects.

Mathews has more than 30 years of experience across Australia, Mexico and New Zealand and most recently served as executive VP for Australasia at Gold Fields. “During his career he has delivered five mining projects from exploration through development to full operations,” Hot Chili said.

Cerda, a former project director at the Norte Abierto joint venture between Newmont and Barrick, has held senior roles at major miners including BHP, Glencore, Codelco and Antofagasta. His project portfolio includes Los Pelambres, Spence and Antamina.

“The company welcomes these two key appointments at an important inflection point in the company’s growth and looks forward to Stuart and Alberto’s contribution and stewardship of Hot Chili’s final stages of investment to deliver a new midtier copper/gold producer,” it said in a statement.
